On a beautiful Saturday in October, the YWCA of South Hampton Roads hosted its 1st Annual Men Who Empower Tailgate Party & Cook-off in the Ainslie Game Day Building on the campus of Old Dominion University.  This event was held in October, in conjunction with Domestic Violence Awareness Month.  There was food, music, football and most of all, a celebration for those who support the YWCA and Its cause.  The YWCA chose to honor a few men who they believe spread the message, and through action, empower women and children in our community to better themselves.  We are very proud that Payday’s president, Danny Kline, was among those honored.  He was humbled and grateful for the recognition.

For over 100 years the YWCA has been supporting women, children and families in need.  They have helped those affected by domestic violence, sexual assault, poverty or otherwise neglected by society.  YWCA also works to eliminate racism and prejudice of all kinds.  They have opened their doors and hearts to so many and offer a myriad of programs including crisis support centers along with child enrichment programs, just to name a few.  They are fearlessly lead by Ruth Jones, a Hampton Roads native that followed her heart back home after several years in Northern VA, DC and Maryland.  She is a shining beacon of hope for those in need.  Please help Ruth and the YWCA by visiting their website, www.ywca-shr.org, for more information and to lend your support.
