The Boys and Girls Club of Southeast Virginia paraded a bevy of deserving candidates on stage to stake their claim for the Youth of the Year. Two-time nominee, Taekion Jenkins took home the honor. Mr. Jenkins is a senior at Oscar Smith High School and attends the Governor’s School of Arts in Norfolk. He plans to attend Virginia State University in the fall. A truly amazing young man that has overcome adversity in every stage of life. We would like to recognize and congratulate Mr. Jenkins on his hard work and wish him continued success! It isn’t often you receive investment advice from your payroll company, but we have a can’t miss opportunity for you. Invest in our youth. That’s what the Boys and Girls Club does every day and the Payday Team has the privilege of joining them in this effort. The Youth of the Year dinner puts the talented boys and girls of the organization on full display. This year was a treat for us as we had three amazing young ladies from the club at our table for dinner. Poised, gracious, intelligent, respectful and talented are just a few words that come to mind. There was no better example of this than Saniyyah Bamberg. Toward the end of the evening, Ms. Bamberg quietly excused herself from the table and to our surprise, took to the stage to perform Rise Up, by Andra Day. In a word, amazing. Her voice lifted spirits and inspired us all. The audience erupted in cheers and a standing ovation. Ms. Bamberg returned to her seat, sat down and enjoyed the moment. This is why we give. To see our youth given the opportunity to realize their potential. If you would like to invest in our youth, please visit The Boys and Girls Club of Southeast VA at www.bgcseva.org.
